My Journey of Cultural Competence
Learn about my legacy, rooted in my dedication to promoting equality, diversity, equity, and inclusion. These core values drive my commitment to helping others achieve transformative growth.
Peaceful Greetings
I am SisDr, an Afrikan-centred coach, author, scholar, educator, activist, speaker, and counsellor. ‘Sis’ reflects my common unity with the African diaspora, while ‘Dr’ represents my academic achievements in the European paradigm.
My Academic Background
Birthed by Caribbean parents into a Caribbean household I am one of seven siblings.
I have been shaped by Britain and its European ‘abhorrent rules’ that privileged some and discriminated against others.
Confronted by the notion and impact of white supremacy from an early age, I quickly recognised how much I detest injustice.
I hold an MA in Education, and a Ph.D. in education inclusion, particularly in the context of African and Caribbean heritage communities.
I also hold a PgDip in quality assurance, and worked as a Senior Programme Officer (Graduate Studies and Research) at The University of the West Indies Quality Assurance Unit before following my passion to forge my own path as a coach, speaker, and educator.
I also serve as a patron and Trustee on several Community Interest Companies. One of my key areas of interest is reparatory justice, with my work being rooted in the principles of MA’AT (truth, balance, harmony, reciprocity, righteousness, order and justice).
My commitment is towards equality, which in turn, leads to equity.
Apart from having contributed to education and reparatory justice international conferences, I am a specialist in Caribbean African cultural competence and rites of passage programmes.
What I do
As a professional life coach, mentor, counsellor, and activist, I am at home working with grassroots, public, and not-for-profit sector individuals and organisations globally. I also work with small, medium, and large private sector organisations and associations.
I am particularly interested in making the most of my diverse qualifications that span education, healing, creativity, spiritual practices, and social equity.
My mission is to empower individuals to connect with their true selves without apologies and achieve their personal and professional aspirations.
I use focused workshops, one-on-one and group life coaching sessions designed to guide individuals through the process of self-discovery and self-development through proven techniques. I owe the fluidity and intuitiveness I bring to my work to the breadth of my experience, qualifications, consciousness, commitment, and spirituality. I also enjoy regularly leading high-profile lectures, inspirational presentations, and speaking assignments at events, webinars, and also increasingly on podcasts.
While I leverage a combination of coaching, culturally-sensitive counselling, reflecting, stillness and movement, I also use unconventional approaches to reduce static and release divine energy potency. This approach serves to reveal behavioural, mental, emotional and spiritual recalibration, resulting in less distraction, more achievement, multi-sensory and positive behavioural changes.
My book ‘The Way We See It’ emphasises ‘difficult conversations’ around the historical links between British education policies and social exclusion. The evil of social exclusion damages the mental and emotional fabric of children extensively. In the book, I talk about moving beyond the discomfort of discussions around the discriminatory policy towards actual implementation of inclusive policies, social inclusion practice, and associated legislation.
SisDr Is Inspired By:
Outside of typical role models that include my Mother and Father, I am influenced and inspired by so very many people who care enough to actually do something about the injustice in the world. Basically they are brave enough to speak out about injustice and leave legacy. Loosely translated they are:
Ancestor Queen Mother Jessica Huntley
Brother Andrew Muhammad ‘The Investigator’
Ancestor Queen Mother Nina Simone
Professor Angela Davis
Dr Jane Elliott
Professor Joy Degruy Leary
An Eternal Quest
I have strived to establish a new normal informed by Ancestral guidance fused with Eastern and Western methodologies.
I champion the idea that ‘English Is Not My First Language’.
Humility is my anchor. Heritage is my throne. Greatness is my inheritance and my legacy.
My eternal quest is to cling to a frame of reference more aligned to the highest interests of mySelf and my commonUnity. Umoja! (Swahili)
I am a child of AfRaKa……..without apology!
