I have known SisDr Sandra Richards for over 15 years. I am particularly impressed with SisDr demonstrated awareness; competence and skill at spontaneously managing situations as they arise. SisDr Sandra Richards’ exemplary body of work on educational repair, holistic healing and community empowerment has been crucial to my self-development as a scholar and activist. SisDr’s encouragement to be reflexive while committed to being academically rigorous, which she epitomises as an expert in liberatory pedagogy, guided me to the successful completion of my doctoral studies. Indeed, her title of Sister Doctor reflects how many within the African heritage community, myself included, revere her powerful ability to merge high theory with grounded practice fortified by lived experiences.

Moreover, SisDr’s long-standing grassroots work as a grounded, uncompromisingly politically “black” community worker has enriched my own practice by demonstrating that organic intellectualism that is authentically people-centred can simultaneously be academic and empowering. The Pan-African community, particularly across the diaspora in the UK and Caribbean, owe her an outstanding debt for reminding us of this Truth in praxis and words.

I have worked with Sis Dr Sandra Richards for the last nearly thirty years on many private and public platforms. I count her as one of my spiritual mentors. She has a deep level of wisdom on all subjects pertaining to the spiritual and mental wellbeing of our community.

Dr Sandra has a way of delivering her messages to both the academic and the grassroots communities. She is always highly sought after yet manages to serve all that need her help and assistance. Another unique characteristic of SisDr Sandra is her connectivity to all regardless of race, gender or class. She’s a brilliant international star that I’ve been honoured to work with.

I first met SisDr twenty-plus years ago. I was in awe of the the possibility that she had set before me, by simply being a Black woman in charge of her destiny. As a result, I am now the author of my life. During the last year, I have marvelled and been the beneficiary of her ability to facilitate a space where individuals feel held, in a culturally sensitive way.

SisDr Sandra Richards is a person worthy of our trust. She has proven herself to be extremely accomplished in the development of her gifts and abilities: she has worked in her time in corporate high flying roles; she is an academician, a published author, public speaker, an experienced counsellor in the specialist field of domestic violence and abuse against African Heritage women, she is a wife and a mother. She’s lived- and within the scheme of things she’s proven done good.

What distinguishes her as worthy of our trust is that she has never left her community behind, nor abandoned her core identity as a Black woman of Caribbean African heritage, as a price for further social success. Instead, she has made it her business to use her platforms to extend knowledge of the impact of institutional racism upon her community and has worked to dismantle them- and where this has not been possible, she has been prepared to forgo the shiny prospects of promotion to greater financial rewards and social status, in order to be an advocate and a voice for her People. She has and continues to cultivate within herself compassion sufficient to courageously speak her Truth without malice, without hatred in her heart, from a place of knowledge as to the destruction suffered by African heritage people from ongoing and historical abuses at the hands of dominating power structures. SisDr Sandra Richards is a person worthy of our trust.
