How do you stay balanced when the ground keeps shifting beneath you?
When you’re the only one in the room holding it together. When you’re carrying expectations, but no one carries them for you. When you’re told to be resilient, but resilience just feels like another word for exhausted.
It’s hard to find balance when the world around you was never built for it.
But balance isn’t about staying upright in chaos. Balance is about creating your own centre – one that can’t be shaken.
In Afrikan philosophy, MA’AT represents that balance:
✨ Truth.
✨ Justice.
✨ Harmony.
✨ Order.
✨ Compassion.
✨ Reciprocity.
✨ Righteousness.
It’s more than an ideal. It’s a way of showing up for yourself and your community, no matter what the world throws at you.
But What Does MA’AT Look Like in Real Life?
💯 Truth – Speaking up, even when it’s uncomfortable. Saying, “That joke wasn’t funny.” “I deserve better pay.” “This space isn’t safe for me.”
⚖️ Justice – Challenging the systems that push you to the margins. It’s not just about calling out racism, sexism, or bias, but about reshaping the spaces you move through.
🌿 Harmony – Choosing peace without shrinking yourself. Walking away from conversations that drain you, jobs that don’t value you, and relationships that expect you to bend until you break.
💜 Compassion – For yourself. Because “strong Black woman” isn’t a personality type—it’s survival. And survival shouldn’t be your only option.
🔄 Reciprocity – Pouring into others, but only after you’ve poured into yourself. How often do you show up for everyone else while your own cup runs empty?
MA’AT isn’t about perfection. It’s about balance.
- When the world pushes you off-centre, how do you get back to yourself?
- When injustice feels overwhelming, how do you stand firm without burning out?
- When silence seems safer, how do you speak your truth without fear?
These aren’t easy questions. But they’re the ones we’re holding space for in I’m Power-Meant.
Balance Starts with Showing Up.
This nine-part series runs every two weeks from Thursday, 20 March 2025, at 7 PM GMT. Each session invites you to explore the principles of MA’AT – not as abstract ideals, but as tools for real, everyday life.
You deserve more than survival. You deserve balance, peace, and power.
Let’s take action.
