Sometimes, I see an Afrikan trying to act more English than the English. I can’t walk into a space now and see an Afrikan or someone who looks like me and feel confident that I can speak to them openly.
I have to listen and find out who they are because if they discover I’m aware and conscious, they might betray me to ‘Massa’. Then I’m in trouble.
As SisDr, I declare myself a Pan-Afrikanist, and I can’t be betrayed. My colleagues can’t tell anybody, “You know, she’s a Pan-Afrikanist,” because I’ve already said it. I’m already out here performing rituals, claiming my Afrikan Self and recognising my Ancestry.
I’m okay with the fact that English isn’t my first language. I’m cool that I don’t know everything about it. You can’t expose me and let people discover all of this about me because I’m telling you now, and I’m proud of it. It’s what I stand for.
The Importance of Daily Rituals
Like knowing my true Self, there’s a side to my Afrikan heritage, Culture, and daily rituals that matter most to me. A ritual could be taking off your make-up in the evening, putting your clothes away, or what happens when your child comes home from school. Did you know your everyday rituals impact your life significantly?
Ritual isn’t a secretive word. It’s not a word that should suggest you’re involved in some kind of curious practice. It’s just something you repeatedly do. In Europe, they have rituals. In Asia, they have rituals. Nature has rituals. You know that at a particular time, the sun will come up. You know that the sea will go out and return to shore.
Challenging Misconceptions About Afrikan Rituals
Unfortunately, certain spiritual practices have been demonised, especially those of Afrikan origin. This isn’t just a European phenomenon anymore; it happens in Asia and other places too. If it’s an Afrikan ritual, it is often demonised.
Embracing Cultural Practices
Embracing our Cultural practices is a way of reclaiming our identity and heritage. It involves understanding the significance of these rituals and how they connect us to our ancestors and our true selves. By integrating these practices into our daily lives, we strengthen our sense of self and community. We need to stand proud of our Culture and traditions, and not let them be diminished or misunderstood. Working with a personal life coach can help in understanding and embracing these practices more deeply.
Conclusion
Understanding and embracing our heritage through self-identity and rituals is crucial. Let’s challenge misconceptions and take pride in our Cultural practices. A personal life coach can provide guidance and support in this journey.
